Bedford Modern School (BMS) won the toss on a breezy day at Wisbech Grammar School (WGS) and elected to bat.
BMS put on 14 for the first wicket before the introduction of Jack Trundley in the 5th over of the day removed M. Taylor for 4 runs, by a good catch from Ollie Mann. Jack then took 3 more wickets in an excellent spell of 5 overs, 4 for 13 runs, taking the first 4 wickets of the BMS innings. R. Bassing offered good resistance, scoring 31, before falling to Captain Henry Thornton with another good catch from Ollie Mann.
Henry produced an excellent spell, taking 4 wickets for 10 runs in 6 overs. Joe Mayes and Arran Shipley took the last 2 wickets, with BMS finishing their innings on 117 all out in the 30th over.
The WGS reply got off to a steady start, scoring 21 before Ollie Mann was given LBW for 9 runs. Alex Clabon followed shortly after, being well caught and bowled by R. Bassin. WGS then collapsed to 32 for 6 against some hostile bowling. However, "Cometh the hour cometh the man," Arran Shipley, made a superb 54 not out, with a good array of shots all around the wicket. He was ably supported by William Gowler (10), Jack Trundley (9) and a very patient 7 not out from Bradley Hutler.
This was an excellent result for Wisbech Grammar School, as the boys had to dig deep and show real resolve to get over the line. Well played both teams.
A big thank you to the many parents and staff that supported.
