Wisbech Grammar School 6th Form Pupil attempts camel racing all in aid of Charity

Camel racing lined up alongside world class equestrian sport at Barefoot Estates Burnham Market International this Easter. This is not what you would expect to find one of Wisbech Grammar 6th Form pupils doing over Easter Holidays.  Her usual passion is horse-riding but in the aid of raising money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, Heather became an expert camel racer! So far she has raised £430 for a great cause; her target is £500!

The camel race was in four heats and Heather was matched to a camel, she ended up with one of the biggest and it was certainly a challenge to get the camel going forward to the finish line. In each of the heats there was a professional Eventer and Heather had Donte Evans in hers. With that in mind she had the fastest time and ended up winning her heats to go on to win the final race on Blizzard 11.27 seconds.

“The camels had a mind of their own and they are very difficult to steer but it was great fun and an experience I will remember” Heather

Heather has been at Wisbech Grammar School for nine years and is now enjoying her time in 6th  Form after which she is intending to study Psychology at University.  She is currently studying English Literature, Psychology and History as A-levels and is planning on taking a gap year to pursue her passion in dressage. I think her days of camel racing may be over in favour of her horse who she hopes to take with her to university.

Fundraising certainly seems to be a passion at Wisbech Grammar School with Peter Timmis (Head of 6th Form)  and  Kate Timmis (Head of English) completing the

London Marathon raising £1850 so far for Carers Worldwide. The whole school took part in Comic Relief raising £990 for the charity.
