The School will be alive with the sound of music on 30 June for a Charity Piano Recital

Miles MacLachlan Upper 6th Form pupil is performing in a Charity Piano Recital in order to raise funds towards the purchase of a replacement Grand Piano for Octavia Hill’s Birthplace House

This charity event will be held at Wisbech Grammar School in the Russell Hall on Friday 30 June at 7:00pm and will include works by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Satie, Rachmaninov performed by renowned Piano Teacher, Loc-Mai Yuen Brooker and her students Miles Machachlan and Duncan Ford.

Refreshments will also be provided and served by The Friends of Wisbech Grammar School.

Miles is an Upper 6th Form pupil at Wisbech Grammar School and has been at the school since 1st Form when his passion for music was established whilst listening to the, then, 6th Form pupils.  Miles has been enjoying piano tuition since the age of Eight with Loc-Mai who has inspired him in his musical pursuits. Miles has recently been appointed Organ Scholar at Sherborne Abbey, where he will work under the direction of the Director of Music there. Miles’ ambition is to win an organ scholarship at Oxford University in the following academic year, and this opportunity will be invaluable in helping him to prepare for that competitive process.

The night promises to be a grand affair and we hope to sell as many tickets as possible to raise money for the Octavia Hill Birthplace Museum Trust as they rely on visitor income and the generosity of individual donors.

Miles (Upper 6th Form Pupil Wisbech Grammar School)

With over 25 years’ experience as a musician, Loc-Mai is known and respected in the Wisbech area predominately as a piano teacher. Her high standard of teaching, imparting her skills with enthusiasm, ensure the enjoyment of her pupils’ flourishing talents at any level.  Likewise, she takes much pride when guiding those pupils who choose to pursue their aptitude to university or Music College.

We really hope that as many people as possible will be able to attend and enjoy sharing our music with us. Octavia Hill's Birthplace House deserves a fine piano to help continue its legacy of beauty, education, and sharing of music

Loc-Mai Yuen Brooker

Duncan Ford is a fellow student of Loc-Mai’s and was born in Nottingham, Duncan moved to Walsoken in 2013. Self-taught for many years, he began piano lessons with Loc-Mai in 2014, determined to progress further. He's currently working on Grade 6 exam pieces and looking forward to the Charity Event on 30 June.

Tickets are priced at £8 for adults and £4 for pupils/children with all proceeds going to Octavia Hill’s Birthplace House towards a replacement Grand Piano.  For parents of the School, tickets will be available via ParentPay. Alternatively if you are not a parent of the School you can call Wisbech Grammar direct on 01945 586 750 to reserve a seat and purchase a ticket.
