We offer an all-inclusive programme that gives every pupil the opportunity to engage in sports. We don’t exclude pupils and we don’t believe in only having one ‘A’ team. Sport is a terrific way of building life and social skills – especially when pupils meet opposition from other schools – and is available to all sports-people of all abilities.
Wisbech Grammar School has specialist PE teachers, a physiotherapist and staff academically trained in coaching to ensure our pupils regard exercise as an essential part of a healthy lifestyle both at school and throughout their lives.
The major sports are rugby, hockey, cricket and athletics for boys; hockey, netball, cricket and athletics for girls. There are a considerable number of alternatives for those who prefer individual sports or wish to develop their personal fitness including archery, badminton, cross-country, cycling, squash, table tennis, tennis, trampolining, and fitness classes (spinning, body pump, and aerobics) and the use of the fitness suite.
Facilities are excellent with a generous provision of rugby pitches; including a newly laid 1st XV pitch; netball courts, cricket wickets (grass and synthetic) and an athletics track with jumping and throwing areas. The magnificent sports hall has five Cricket Net bays and is used for Netball matches and a variety of indoor sports. Hockey players use the School’s own sand dressed pitch.
There is a busy programme of fixtures against other schools with as many of our pupils in action on Saturdays. In recent years the Schools players have achieved considerable success at County, divisional and Academy level with pupils going on to represent England, Scotland and The Independent Schools Rugby team, “The Lambs”.
Northampton Saints coach, Jon Curry, takes weekly sessions with our Rugby Teams and we also have local Hockey, Netball and Cricket Clubs training here.
