We have had two very successful ‘Open Science Mornings’ at Wisbech Grammar School with one Saturday morning being for current Prep 6 pupils and the other being for new pupils joining our 1st Form September 2018. These days are great for welcoming new families into the school, as parents and children spend the morning together working on a series of scientific experiments. It is also a great opportunity for families to get to know each other before they join WGS next year.
The morning started with bacon rolls and croissants in Skelton hall, before moving to the Science Laboratories with Mrs. Sarah Fox, Head of Lower School Science.
There was a Christmas theme to the activities and pupils were asked for example to determine which toys were the fastest, which reindeer treat would be the healthiest for Rudolph and to design a new sleigh for Santa that would be able to carry lots of presents.
I always enjoy these mornings and it is nice for parents to see their children working on a series of scientific investigations and using scientific equipment. There is a definitely a competitive side to many of the pupils when it comes to designing and testing the sleighs

Feedback from parents and children has been very positive and we look forward to planning more dates in the future!

Best time of my life, I loved it!

After a long journey early this morning, we appreciated the warm welcome and bacon roll. It was good to be hands-on with the experiments and the final challenge. For parents it was good to see children in action and see the science facilities”
