Annual Harvest Fair raises much needed funds and food donations

On Thursday 5 October, we held the annual Harvest Fair which is a long-lived tradition at Wisbech Grammar School, whereby pupils from both the Senior and the Preparatory School donate non-perishable foods for a collection which is then distributed to charities working with the elderly and homeless people in the local community.

In addition, the main event takes place over lunchtime and consists of various food stalls and activities in order to raise money for a chosen charity. This year we have chosen to donate all the proceedings to Shelter Box - an international disaster relief charity that provides temporary shelter and life-saving supplies to displaced families.

Every year, this event is thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who takes part as not only is it an excuse to buy lots of food (especially cakes) it is also a great way of bringing the School community together as it is a House run event, therefore we are given the opportunity to work along-side different year groups who we might not normally get to interact with. In our Houses we are split into different strands, with each one coming up with a stall to run at Harvest Fair. For example, every year there are the traditional stalls and activities, such as cake stalls, hot dog stands, penalty shoot-out and everyone’s favourite, ‘the stocks’, since who wouldn’t want to throw a wet sponge at their teacher? However, this year there were some new stalls added to the mix. For instance, there were stalls from crazy golf to one of the Sparks’ strands devising the imaginatively named ‘Sparkbucks’ where you could buy lots of different flavoured milkshakes and Mrs Sloan made good use of her new outdoor pizza oven as her strand ran a very successful micro pizza business.

A big thank you must go to everyone who helped out and took part for making it another fun and successful event raising lots of money for a great cause!
