On Thursday 5 October, WGS held their annual Harvest Fair which is a long-lived tradition at the School. Pupils from both the Senior and the Prep School donated non-perishable foods for Ely Foodbank which is then distributed through their centre serving March and Chatteris.
Ely Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of food banks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
“Due to changes in universal credit and PIP (personal independent payment) food banks like March and Chatteris are seeing an increase in their services (approx. 17%). Ely Foodbank works with 120 agencies to ensure the right helps gets to those families that need it most. On behalf of everyone involved, we would like to say big thank you to all the pupils at WGS for their generous gift of food” Cathy Wright Project Director Ely Foodbank
Ely Foodbank is also holding collections at Tesco, March on December 1st and 2nd. This will then keep the Foodbank going over the winter. Hampers will be made up in November to be given to those people in particular need over Christmas.
